"Meet the Spartans" is a big-screen sendup of the epic Spartan battle film "300" (2006), the megahit, which told the story of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae between soldiers from Sparta and the troops of the Persian empire with a great sweep and much less historic accuracy.

Director: Zack Snyder. Cast: Gerard Butler as Spartan King Leonidas, Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo, Vincent Regan as Captain.

King Leonidas: My heart is broken for your loss.
Captain: Heart? I have filled my heart with hate.

"Hunting and Fishing" was written by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, successful movie industry vets that previously collaborated with family comedic duo Marlon and Shawn Wayans on "Scary Movie" and brought "Date Movie" and "Epic Movie" to the big screen. Friedberg and Seltzer will also direct and produce the upcoming movie. (30.07.07 Press release from Charles Belk Management)

Uh oh. Kevin Sorbo reports to New Orleans next month to begin filming a big-screen spoof of "The 300," this year's highly stylized hit rendering of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which lots of men in togas fought to the death for glory. Among the legions of fans for the Gerard Butler picture is a sizeable gay audience. "This is incredibly gay, this movie. It's a stretch for me," says Sorbo of the new comedy. There'll even be a guy-guy kiss involved. "The director said, 'Is this a dealbreaker?' I said, 'It could be. No tongue, or I'll kill the guy.' "
<...> Kevin lets us know he plays the captain of the Spartan army in the new movie. Asked if he's still in good enough shape for a part like that, Sorbo says, "I hope. I'm not a six pack. I'm more of a four pack these days. I don't lift heavy like I used to. I'm not benching 360 anymore." (27.06.07 U-Entertainment - Los Angeles Newspaper Group)

Sorbo will start shooting a big-screen comedy, "Hunting and Fishing," a spoof of "300," next month in New Orleans. (05.07.07 Minneapolis Star Tribune)

Sorbo: I'm doing a movie next month with the guys who created the "Scary Movie" films, it's a spoof of "300", and it's very funny. (06.07.07 TV Guide)

Sorbo is playing a Spartan captain in "Hunting and Fishing". He said he didn't know why the movie parody, which eventually will land in theaters, has that title. "They played off nearly every aspect of 300,'" Sorbo said. (06.07.07 Ventura County Star)

Kevin Sorbo: It was a lot of fun and was very funny. The studio, Twentieth Century and New Regency, are very excited for it. <...> That's all I am: just a captain. I'm the captain, the right hand of Leonidas. In the movie "300", it's the guy whose son was decapitated. And in this movie I play a similar role, but it's all done in a much more humorous fashion. The parody is throughout the whole movie. It's very funny, but I'm not supposed to say that much about it. (09.10.07 The Sci-Fi World.net)

The producers of the film do deserve credit for one thing. The casting of Kevin Sorbo in one of the lead roles is pretty much a genius move. He's actually quite funny and should be the sole high point in what is certain to be a grim outing. (20.01.08 Box Office Prophets)

From official site:

"The heroic Leonidas, armed with nothing but leather underwear and a cape, leads a ragtag group of 13 (!) Spartans to defend their homeland against the invading Persians (whose ranks include Ghost Rider, Rocky Balboa, the Transformers, and a hunchbacked Paris Hilton)."
