"Kevin Sorbo: My greatest concern was that they'd make me wear a toga. When I first saw the costume, I was pleasantly surprised to see it was more of a Robin Hood meets The Last of the Mohican's thing." (10.95 Sci-Fi Universe #10)

"I thought I was going to wear a toga," mused Hercules star Kevin Sorbo with no small measure of relief. "As a kid, I saw all the Hercules films. When you're a little kid, all that stuff looks pretty cool. But when you get older, it all looks campy, ESPECIALLY those togas Hercules wears. I'm glad the costume I'm wearing is more of a Last Of The Mohicans-type of garb." (16.10.96 Glitter v.5, # 2)

"Hunk in Leather Worth Watching actor Kevin Sorbo, star of the H:TLJ, does more for leather than any ad in Vogue, Bazaar, Elle or Allure. The long-haired, muscle-bound Sorbo, in his brown leather pants and tan suede tunic top - with shredded seams - takes the brrrrrr out of a cold winter night. Hairdressers, however, may disagree on the straggly haircut and may even suggest that the character could use a good trim. No matter. He still looks good." pants of latticed leather ---- triple-layered leather pants ---- waffle pants

"Kevin Sorbo is grateful for his pants. More specifically, he's grateful that the ridiculous woven leather trousers he dons to play the son of Zeus were designed not with regard for historical or mythological accuracy, but for comfort and style." (10.95 Sci-Fi Universe #10)

"Kevin Sorbo: I've got six pair of woven leather pants." (3.12.95 Austin American-Statesman)

"Kevin Sorbo: The leather woven pants and boots weigh 12 pounds, and that's a lot to lug around in those fight scenes." (2.04.97 Los Angeles Times)

"So just how much fun is it performing stunts in leather pants? -- Kevin Sorbo: Actually, it's great in wintertime because it keeps me warm from the waist down. It also looks good. But it really is a pain to fight in." (08).97 TVchannel)

"Kevin Sorbo: Those pants weigh 12 pounds. So the next time you think, 'Oh his kick wasn't very high', you try wearing 12 pound pants for 12 hours a day and see how high you can kick!" (Answering on Santa Monica convention 01.99 - Starburst #42)

"The mighty Hercules was developing lower back problems, from crunching so many bad guys while wearing boots sans arch support. Then they built him special boots with athletic shoes inside." (3.12.95 Austin American-Statesman)

"... the lace-up leather boots weren't so great. Kevin Sorbo: "I had Nikes in there for support. But the first two seasons I was basically wearing slippers. It wasn't good for the back." (27.11.99 Orlando Sentinel)

"What's the most unusual item in your trailer when you are on location? - Kevin Sorbo: I have a two-foot shoehorn that I use to put on my Hercules boots - they go up to my knees." (09.97 E! Online Star Boards)

"Kevin Sorbo: I got part in September of 93 - and I started growing it then. I had sort of a longish hair, but I wore extensions for the first 5 movies." (9.07.97 Ultimate TV Chat)

"Kevin Sorbo: Hair extensions drive me insane. They glue and sew them right into your head, which is a pain." (31.08.97 Chicago Sun-Times)

"Kevin Sorbo: We did 5 two hour movies and they put extension in my hair - which I hated because they were scratchy and during the course of that year, they slowly removed them because my hair grows very quickly so at the first episode, that was my hair when Hera killed my family to start the series. It took about a year." (07).97 On-line Chat AOL Live Olds Celebrity Circle)

"Kevin Sorbo: For the first five two hour movies I had extensions in. As the hair grew that first year, they kept taking them out. By the first season my hair was probably about three or four inches shorter than it is now. I get it cut about once a month." (07.97 Interview by R.Witterstaetter)

"The hair doesn't hurt, either. "I think it adds that bad-boy mystique, that rebel thing," Sorbo says, then adds mischievously, "I'm ready to cut it." (23.11.96 TV Guide)

"Everyone wants to know about his shoulder-length hair: Is it streaked? Colored? "I do nothing with it. I get the monthly trim. They take off an inch or so, but it's really been since October of '93 since I got a haircut," says Sorbo. Does his contract demand he maintain it exactly as is? "You know, I don't see anything in there. They're probably going to find some loophole where I can't cut it, but if I got the chance to do a movie where I had to chop it off, I'd chop it off in a heartbeat if it was a good film." (23.06.97 by W.Schneider)

"Kevin Sorbo: I'm actually cutting it another few inches to do a new action film. The Hercules people are upset. The producer told me, "You cut your hair! You'll lose your strength!" I'm like, "That's biblical. I'm not Samson, you idiot." (31.08.97 Chicago Sun-Times)

"The ladies also swooned over his long locks - but they're gone. "It feels great," Sorbo said of the cut, although some fans have given him grief. "I said 'What? You just loved me for my hair?' Then they were pretty nice about it." (27.11.99 Orlando Sentinel)

"Sorbo had five inches of his hair cut off, which upset some of his female fans. Locks of his hair were auctioned to benefit A World Fit for Kids, a charity that teaches skills to children in at-risk neighborhoods so they can then mentor younger children. Sorbo has been the spokesman for the organization for three years." (20.11.99 Winston-Salem Journal)

skimpy chamois tunic ---- chest-baring leather tunic ---- vest ---- on the set it was referred to as "shammy"

"How about that chest-baring chamois rag that serves as Hercules' shirt? -- Kevin Sorbo: I'd love to have some other kind of outfit, but that's my Superman cape. I've got about 20 shirts, all the same." (3.12.95 - Austin American-Statesman)

"Kevin Sorbo: I'm no Steve Reeves. And I don't take off my shirt that much." (25.05.96 Tampa Tribune)

"We've gotten a lot of feedback, from both straights and gays, that people really like it when Kevin takes his shirt off," Tapert says." (07/08.96 - Ms. Magazine #1)

"Kevin Sorbo: Well, I was actually surprised how much my shirt is off in this film. You know, because over a three-month period you only shoot one or two pages a day, and you're so into it that you kind of lose track. Sure, Hercules is kind of beefcakey, but it's more like Herc in the Land of Cleavage. The eye-candy is more for the men. On 'Herc,' on purpose, I take my shirt off once every seven or eight episodes. I don't do it that often. The producers want to have more, but I say no." (4.09.97 Weekend Movie Guide and Show Times)

"...every seven or eight episodes." Beyond dispute this affirmation was correct for the 4th season (1997/98). But the grand total came to once every three episodes as we have shirtless HerK in 34 out of 112 (he completely doesn't appear in 4 episodes of the series).

The purse never was mentioned, which is unfair. At the beginning of the show Hercules carried all necessities in a bag. When his journey became constant after the death of his family he went with nothing whatever. This witty item made its first appearance in the episode 'King of Thieves'. And that was really nice touch - in the ancient time people had such thing (mix of bag and modern purse) on the belt to carry coins, fire stone and other small accessories as pockets were devised only in the 16-17th century AD.

The show used this fact with good effect in the episode 'Monster-Child in the Promised Land':

Iolaus: I had the announcement on a piece of paper right here. It's gone! I can't believe! That little guy from the village - he picked my pocket! -- Hercules: You don't have any pockets. -- Iolaus: It's a figure of speech.

"How about that deep, sleek, glowing Hercules tan? -- Kevin Sorbo: They paint us. Actually, I used to be that tan." (3.12.95 - Austin American-Statesman)

"How come your muscles always look so shiny on the show? -- Kevin Sorbo: Well, to start with, they slap a fake tan on me every day. New Zealand is absolutely gorgeous, but its weather is just like Portland or Seattle. You don't get a chance to get tanned. So they put a tan on me, and spray it with a sun cream. Thats what give me the Herc sheen." (3.11.96 - New York Sunday Daily News)

"How do you get that Herc sheen? -- Kevin Sorbo: They shellac this stuff on. I don't know what it is. I think it's left over from Spartacus or something. It's some kind of body paint mixture that they can make lighter or darker. You feel your pores can't breathe, but it looks good." (23.08.97 Australia TV Week)

"Kevin Sorbo: The least thing I'm going to miss on the show is the body wash. They put this brown body wash on me and it drives me insane! My pores have not seen sunlight in six years. They also spray me with this sunscreen on top of it to give me this shine. I could lay on the sun right now - I could take a vacation on the sun and not get burned! That's one thing I won't miss. On my last day, I'm going to dip my makeup person into an entire vat of this sheen! I'll get her!" (24.11.99 Entertainment Tonight)

"Kevin Sorbo: Once the gauntlets go on, I become Hercules! It's something you fall into when you're doing the show and the character for as long as l've been doing it. There's something magic about it." (Answering on Santa Monica convention 01.99 - Starburst #42)

Michael Hurst about filming of the episode The Warrior Princess: "...In those days they gave us real metal swords - idiots, you know." (20.05.99 - interview to Hurst News)

"Kevin Sorbo: Those swords weigh like 8 or 9 pounds. You swing them around and you can hurt someone." (3.11.96 - New York Sunday Daily News)

Description of one of the Hercules' sword props: "It has a very interesting carving on the handle of a batlike/stingray kind of creature with its tail going down to eventually become the blade and it is heavy although Kevin wielded so easily. I am not sure what episode it came from. Its weighs almost 12lbs and is solid metal with purple velvet and gold trim around the handle." (Thanks Stripe)
